‌Seed Pelleting vs. Seed Coating

Time:2025-04-14     Author:Manager Ivy wang【Original】

Seed pelleting involves encapsulating seeds in inert materials (clay, polymers) to create uniformly sized spherical pellets. This improves precision planting for small or irregularly shaped seeds like carrots or lettuce.

The process enhances seed visibility, flowability, and often includes growth promoters.

Seed coating applies thin protective layers (fungicides, nutrients) directly onto seed surfaces without altering their natural shape. It focuses on disease prevention and early growth support, commonly used for corn, soybeans, and cotton as well vegetable seeds.

Key differences: Pelleting modifies seed geometry for mechanical planting, while coating preserves original form. Pellets contain 300%-500% more material by weight than coatings. Pelleted seeds require strict moisture management during germination.

Both technologies boost agricultural efficiency but serve distinct purposes - pelleting optimizes sowing accuracy, whereas coating prioritizes plant health protection.
